LONDON FASHION WEEK EXHIBITION

We like this seasons London Fashion Week exhibition at Somerset house. Best in show goes to Louise Grey's stand which was part of the Newgen area, sponsored by Topshop. Her eclectic mix of colour and print made for a riot of a collection.




We also liked Holly Fulton's geometic, art deco inspired collection.

Marc Jacobs

We like this delightful video blogger Garance Dore made of the Marc Jacobs show in New York. Set to the harmonious notes of 'Somewhere over the rainbow' models emerged from a giant box wrapped in brown paper on the catwalk. Guests perched on benches covered in corrugated cardboard whilst they watched the dreamlike show unfold. Watch the full version here.

HE HAD US AT HELLO....

We like Christopher Bailey. He had us at the first look of Burberry Prosum's show yesterday. The cropped shearling pilot's jackets are a guaranteed seasonal hit. This trend has been bubbling under for a few seasons, first at Topshop Unique over a year ago then at Acne last season. For a/w 10 expect a full scale onslaught of cropped shearling. We hear The Celtic Sheepskin company is already doing a roaring trade with their classic sheepskin biker. Burberry also made much of their collection available to buy from yesterday and the show was live streamed in 3D to locations world wide. The future of fashion is here.

Kenneth Anger at Spruth Magers

Renowned 60s avant garde film maker and, weirdly, Hollywood gossip hound Kenneth Anger has just opened a show at Spruth Magers gallery at the end of Dover St. Expect beautiful and disturbing montages of tough bikers and glamorous oblivious women superimposed with occult and Satanist imagery, set to a seemingly unrelated rock and roll soundtrack. Ah the late 1960s, when rock was still regarded by the establishment as a dangerous and revolutionary influence. A particularly satanic Mick Jagger provides the soundtrack to Invocation of My Demon Brother, one fo the films featured here.

LOVE THE GEEK

While we're on the subject of Geeks and Freaks. If anyone fancies a little light weekend reading we like the previously mentioned Geek Love. A brief synopsis below:

A wild, often horrifying, novel about freaks, geeks and other aberrancies of the human condition who travel together (a whole family of them) as a circus. It's a solipsistic funhouse world that makes "normal" people seem bland and pitiful. Arturo the Aqua-Boy, who has flippers and an enormous need to be loved. A museum of sacred monsters that didn't make it. An endearing "little beetle" of a heroine. Sort of like Tod Browning's Freaks crossed with David Lynch and John Irving and perhaps George Eliot -- the latter for the power of the emotions evoked. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

LIFE'S A CIRCUS

We like circus museum website, a collection of beautiful circus posters of olde. It reminds us of windswept walks down Coney Island pier and reading the wonderfully dark and twisted Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. For all you freaks......

The Royal Horticultural Halls

We like this beautiful art deco building out near Victoria where the RHS hold their events including plant sales in Spring and an orchid show in March. The sun blazes in on a nice day and it's quite magical, even while you're being elbowed out of the way by old grannies looking for the perfect snowdrop...

Anna Fox at Deutsche Borse

The annual Deutsche Borse Prize show has launched at the Photographers Gallery - it's a group show, split between four photographers. We especially liked the work of Anna Fox with her take on things we see everyday which are actually, on reflection, quite surreal.
