RIP us

Well it's official - we're dead. Or at least we look it. Last night we hopped along on a spare ticket to the One on One Festival at the Battersea Arts Centre - which we also visited last year. It was one of the most intense nights we've had out in a long time - literally being rushed from one awkward and stressful situation to the next - they like to test your mettle at these one on ones that's for sure. Nothing could have prepared me for the 2 Free experience with artist Ansuman Biswas - though sadly I wasn't nearly a match for the circumstances. It was fantastic in a very humbling way though to be forced to really have a good look at your own behaviour - impossible to avoid in a one on one situation. Being hung out of a window on a board was strangely relaxing in comparison. And as for being put in a coffin and sung to (thanks Hanneke Pauuwe) - I guess it's good to be prepared for both of those things?

One on One with the BAC

Last night we had the pleasure of visiting the amazing Battersea Arts Centre for the One On One Festival, where you're allocated personal (and surprisingly intimate) theatre experiences with different theatre comapnies taking part. One on One theatre experiences included Folk In A Box, The Face Game, Rotating In A Room of Images and Barnaby Stone's A Little Bit Of A Beautiful Thing. There was a lot more on, but we were on a strict schedule! So didn't all get to go one on one with Franko B, or get kidnapped by beatboxing youths. On til this Sunday at the BAC.

Where is the room where you get tied up and hung out the window again?

Electric Hotel

The weather has been a bit strange lately so it was a lovely surprise to have a nice evening for the outdoor production of Electric Hotel put on by Sadlers Wells. I keep saying it was David Lynch-esque to everyone who would care to listen, and I stand by it. Film noir-ish plot devices, filthy hotel rooms, unexplained screams and impromptu mass dance routines kept us all enthralled, sat in our seats with headphones on to hear all the action going on inside a convincingly old-looking but in fact purpose built hotel building. The setting of the whole piece - one of the last few un-re-developed areas of kings cross, behind a disused gas tower - helped suspend our disbelief that perfect extra bit.
